Ava Seymour was born in 1967 in Palmerston North, New Zealand, and she lives and works in Auckland.
Solo exhibitions of Seymour’s have been presented in public institutions including Te Tuhi, Auckland; Artspace, Auckland; Dunedin Public Art Gallery, Dunedin; The Physics Room, Christchurch. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at such institutions as Adam Art Gallery, Wellington; Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland; City Gallery, Wellington; Govett-Brewster, New Plymouth; The National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; and The National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne. Seymour's work is included in the collections of Auckland Art Gallery, Victoria University, Te Papa Tongarewa, the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, and Queensland Art Gallery. She was appointed a Frances Hodgkins Fellow in 2001 and McCahon Artist in residence in 2009 – 2010.
